📖 The Great Race Legend
According to Chinese legend, the order of the zodiac animals was determined by the Great Race. The Jade Emperor invited all animals to a race across a river, and the first twelve to cross would be honored in the zodiac.
The clever Rat hitched a ride on the Ox's back, jumping off at the last moment to take first place. The hardworking Ox came second. The strong Tiger finished third, and the graceful Rabbit fourth. The mighty Dragon arrived fifth, and the sneaky Snake sixth. The Horse and Goat arrived together, placing seventh and eighth. The playful Monkey swung into ninth, and the proud Rooster crowed tenth. The loyal Dog came eleventh, and the relaxed Pig — who had stopped for a nap — finished twelfth.
